Where Life Appears
About the process behind the mixed media canvas for "Where Life Appears"
PROCESS OF CREATING

A silent day with a sudden feeling of something inside, wanting to be expressed
I then placed myself in the living room, found some painting ink, a glass of water, a pencil and an ink pen next to the block of the aquarelle paper. A cheap stock to find out if that was I medium I would continue using before looking after a roll to cut off pieces of paper in the size wanted, instead of wasting money on semi-okay paper, stuck together with glue and extra cardboard to be thrown away in the recycle trash bin. I like tearing these papers apart though but I prefer free hand cutting out things with a sharp paper knife. There is something fulfilling from the feeling of doing things yourself, slowly, steady and knowing "oh, this sharp line was made all by me" or "ah, this weird shape is because I did it all free hand, so be it. Let's see how I can work with that"
Without thinking further but looking outside the window, up at the sky which is my main inspiration if not being charmed by the tunes of music, I already was done. As someone who normally overdo the background in either colors or landscapes, I then decided to leave it be. Leave it open for interpretation as I already knew from the first glimpse what the image below meant to me.
This was made sometime in Spring 2023 or 2024. Normally I put a date on the backside but this time the date remains unknown.
Then, as time flew by and the exhibition said "in just 1 ½ month", empty canvas' still stood there, hungry for being fed up by colors and the wish to being caressed by the strokes of the pencil. I finally saw it - the image I had long forgotten though recently found between aquarelles and sketches. And then I saw how it would fit perfect on the canvas in front of me.
So I started painting, without lining anything up I did some abstract work in the background while painting on three other ones. Then returning and finishing it with some more acrylics and pens, using pens and sponges, brushes, water, spray bottle and cloths.
